Letter from the chair

dear friends,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am reaching out to share with our valued supporters of our community’s rich history an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact at the Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion, the former home of New Hampshire’s first royal governor, Benning Wentworth.

Owned by the State of New Hampshire Division of Parks and Recreation, this remarkable 37-room Mansion, overlooking Little Harbor, stands as one of the most significant examples of colonial architecture in our state. It offers a glimpse into the political and social life of Portsmouth in the 1700s, showcasing both its stateliness and its impressive interior finishes. The Mansion is the only complete original surviving residence of a colonial Royal Governor in the United States and is a National Historic Landmark. Our Association works with the NH Division of Parks and the state’s Wentworth-Coolidge Commission to preserve this historic site. Over the past few years we have assisted with projects such as improving the dehumidification systems, installation of new windows and UV protective shades throughout the Mansion, and events highlighting the history and contributions to the Portsmouth area.

We now are focusing on an essential project to enhance the lighting and accessibility in the Hall, ensuring that all our guests can fully appreciate the beauty and history of this magnificent space. We also plan to provide assistance with interior painting of the public rooms and other projects to continue to preserve this important site. Your support will help us create an authentic and welcoming experience for everyone who visits.

We invite you to join us in this mission. Any gift, big or small, will make a meaningful difference. The Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion Association is a 501(c)(3) organization and your donation is tax-deductible.

Use the secure form below to make an online donation today.

Thank you for considering a donation to support our efforts. Together, we can ensure that the Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion remains a treasured part of our heritage for generations to come.

Warm regards,
